SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield is enforcing its brand new Pawnbroker Ordinance, causing fines for six pawn stores, and three that couldn’t renew their licenses.
The Mayor’s Office stated Springfield police started compliance checks on all 23 licensed pawnbroker/junk-dealer establishments into the City following the regulation took effect at the start of March.
Springfield Police Commissioner William Fitchet stated that police carried out the undercover compliance register March, and 14 organizations were found to stay in conformity, but nine of these were in breach.
“We believe that those organizations should be controlled very stringently so that they can’t take stolen goods, as well as can’t inhibit Police Officers from doing a really comprehensive research being recover the goods, ” Fitchet said.
