Two people have been arrested in connection with the theft of more than 50 guns from a Springfield firearms dealer, police said Tuesday.

Thieves kicked in the door at Letz Hunt and Sport, 3335 E. Enos Ave., about 10 p.m. Sunday.

The names of the people arrested were not being released because the incident remains under investigation, said Springfield police Lt. Chris Mueller. He said more arrests are possible.

Officers were called to the business, in a residential neighborhood on the city's north end, at 7:29 a.m. Monday. Mueller said the firearms dealer had an alarm system, but it did not sound when the door was kicked in.

Letz Hunt and Sport’s website was not working Tuesday, but photos on its Facebook page show it sells handguns, revolvers, rifles and other gun accessories.

Nobody at the business answered the phone Tuesday, and a recorded message indicated the store would be closed until Oct. 18 due to an “emergency.”

Mueller said he did not have a breakdown of what type of guns were taken, but noted that police have recovered one of the stolen firearms.
